California duo Best Coast have announced the follow-up to last year’s The Only Place, along with artwork that leaves you nodding and saying, “Yep, that’s a Best Coast album cover.” The seven-track release Fade Away will feature five new songs and two recent ones, those two being the Record Store Day-released tracks “Fear of My Identity” and “Who Have I Become.”
Rather than being released on Mexican Summer, Fade Away will be the first release on singer Bethany Cosentino’s record label, Jewel City, on the 22 of an already stacked October.
The label switch is not the only change, according to the band. A star-studded list of inspirations for the new material has been bandied about, including My Bloody Valentine, Patsy Cline, and Mazzy Star. Though the descriptors “beach pop” and “surf rock” will likely be attached just as ubiquitously as they always have been, artists gaining inspiration from such modern and classic artists always builds a bit of extra anticipation.
