Smoke DZA Releases “City Of Dreams”

It’s hard to look anywhere online today without being reminded of the terrorist attacks on New York City in 2001. We’ll never forget where we were when everything happened and neither will you. Days like today we remember the ones we lost and celebrate the fact our freedom remains in tact. Smoke DZA’s latest focuses on the latter, and it’s a nice pick-me-up on an otherwise somber day.

Hitting the net early Wednesday morning, Smoke DZA’s “City Of Dreams” opens with the emcee recognizing that today is a day of reflection. The song serves as his ode to New York City, and though the beat is as gritty as they come, the message being conveyed is actually quite positive. DZA has a flow like no other, and it’s clear in the bars he delivers here that the memories of that September morning are still fresh on his mind. Still, like so many others DZA urges people to stand in celebration of NYC, because even in the face of peril the people of this gigantic metropolis clung to one another as a community. They helped one another survive, and in the years since 9/11 have only grown stronger. You can stream and download the track below.

Smoke DZA has been relatively quiet since his 4/20 release, so “City Of Dreams” also serves as a friendly reminder that he’s one of the best emcees no one seems to discuss. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the new material.
