HOLY SH!T: ‘Tokyo Drift’ Star Lucas Black Added To ‘Fast & Furious 7’ (and 8…and 9…)

I get excited about a lot of movie news, but this is one announcement that literally had me shouting with joy alone in my dark living room at 11:30pm on a Monday. Not because of the name necessarily, but for what the announcement signifies for a franchise people underestimate at every corner.

Lucas Black, star of the often overlooked Fast And Furious: Tokyo Drift, has officially been added to the already star-studded cast of Fast & Furious 7. This will mark his first return to the franchise since facing off with Vin Diesel at the end of Drift, and according to the official press release he’s on board for the two planned installments that will follow in the years to come. Yes, Fast & Furious 8 & 9 are already in the works. Deal with it.

News of Black’s addition to 7 comes just days after director James Wan revealed the long-rumored addition of Kurt Russell to the cast. Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jason Statham, Tyrese, and Tony Jaa are also confirmed to return.

Filming is already underway on Fast & Furious 7, which is currently scheduled for an early summer 2014 release. Few plot details can be confirmed at this point, so we’ll hold off on writing too much on that just yet.

You can view a reminder of Black’s contributions to the Fast & Furious franchise so far, below. We’ll bring you more updates as new information becomes available.
