Danny Brown Keeps It Weird With “Dip” Video, Delays ‘Old’ One Week

I think I’ve officially reached the point where my excitement for Danny Brown‘s Old could not be any greater. He’s previewed probably half the album at this point and every song has been a banger, including the one that just got its own music video.

“Dip” was premiered by Mark Ronson earlier this year at a club event in the UK. Footage surfaced online of the premiere, but a live recording of a DJ in a club full of people is not exactly the best way to experience new music. Today the video came out, and it’s as eccentric as you would expect a visual offering from Danny Brown to be, complete with cartoon animations and high quality performance footage from the rapper’s recent tours. You can view the clip below.

From a musical perspective, “Dip” feels like the kind of song only a select few artists could tackle. The beat doesn’t necessarily lend itself to club or radio exposure, even if the sample and title are pulled from one of the greatest songs of all time, but Brown makes it an engaging listening experience nonetheless through his unique and colorful wordplay.

Whether or not you find “Dip” as enthralling as the other material Danny Brown has released recently, there is no denying he currently works in a league all his own. There’s no telling how the hip hop game will change after Old hits stores October 8, but it certainly will never be the same.
