Tupac Shakur Biopic To Begin Production In 2014

Here’s something you don’t see everyday: Studio announces production plans for long-awaited biopic and leaves off all information regarding a star or director.

Morgan Creek Productions and Emmett/Furla Films announced in a Thursday news release they are in final negotiations to partner on the production of Tupac, a film about slain rap icon Tupac Shakur. The picture will begin filming next year in Atlanta.

Shakur was famously gunned down on the Las Vegas strip in 1996. His murder remains unsolved, and over the years has lead to many crazy conspiracy theories ranging from the rapper faking his own death, to alien abduction, government assassination, and beyond. He released numerous best-selling albums, including some put on shelves after his death, and has verses on some of the biggest songs of all time (ever heard of a little song called “California Love“?).

The film will be executive produced by Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur.

The press release says the upcoming biopic will focus on life, which is a studio’s way of answering questions about the plot without actually saying anything at all. No director or star has been named, and as far as we know there have been no recent rumors about casting either. We’re continuing to follow this story, however, and will bring you more information as soon as details begin to surface.
