DAMMIT: Joaquin Phoenix Did Not Produce Pusha T’s “King Push”

Been awhile since we had a ‘Dammit’ headline.

After being widely reported otherwise by almost every music publication, actor Joaquin Phoenix has admitted he is not the producing virtuoso behind Pusha T‘s “King Push.”

In a statement given to XXL, the star of Walk The Line confessed:

“While it was widely reported that Pusha T used my beat and that I produced his song, I can’t take any credit. A friend’s son played me his music, and all I did was make an introduction to Kanye’s camp.”

This whole misunderstanding can be traced back to an interview Pusha T did with Vibe over the summer. In the feature, Pusha explained how he’d taken his new album, My Name Is My Name (out October 8), to Kanye for review and advice. While there, Ye suggested Pusha consider a few additional beats, and it’s when Pusha attempted to explain the source of the instrumentals the confusion began.

“One of those beats was from Joaquin Phoenix, and it’s probably gonna be…I want it to be the intro to my album,” he told the publication.

The name of the young artist who actually created the beat for “King Push” has yet to be revealed, but it’s likely someone will take credit sooner or later. We’ll update you as additional information becomes available.
