You Need To See The Trailer For ‘The Armstrong Lie’

You may think you know the story of Lance Armstrong, but later this year a new film from Sony will attempt to set the record straight once and for all using the one witness most have yet to hear from: Lance Armstrong.

We all know the basics, but just in case: Lance Armstrong was at one time (not long ago) a world-famous cyclist and cancer survivor. There were rumors for years that he cheated through doping, but he fended them off – until he didn’t. The truth eventually came out that he had indeed spent years cheating the game, which shocked literally millions of people around the world and crushed countless dreams. It’s a modern tale of deception unlike any other, and now the man behind it all is (supposedly) going to tell the truth.

Filmmaker Alex Gibney set out to make a documentary on Lance Armstrong in 2009, just a few years before his lies would eventually unravel. During their time together Armstrong repeatedly shot down allegations of doping, and in the process left Gibney with a film essentially made of lies. When the truth came out, Gibney reached out to Armstrong with an offer to be honest, and the result is being under the title The Armstrong Lie. You can view the first trailer below.

The entire Lance Armstrong ordeal did not impact me any direct way, but I am completely fascinated by the story after seeing this trailer. It’s not about the fact he lied, but rather an examination of the kind of sociopath you have to be in order to live such a lie on a grand scale over multiple years. The number of layers in Armstrong’s lies are too numerous to count, and the fact he was able to balance and sell them for so many years is almost as admirable as it is appalling. I’m not sure The Armstrong Lie will lead people to forgive him or see him in a better light, but it will certainly keep him in headlines for months to come.

The Armstrong Lie begins hitting theaters in limited release on November 8. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the trailer.
