Required Listening: Katy Perry – “Unconditionally”

Unconditionally - Katy Perry [Ernesth García]

I’ve said it before and I’ll likely write it again, but Katy Perry is making it incredibly hard to care about any upcoming pop release other than her own. This is not a complaint, at least not from me.

Having showcased a variety of sonic offerings between the multiple promotional singles she has released thus far, Katy Perry is ready to unveil the softer side of Prism with the new single “Unconditionally.” The track, as most can probably put together, deals with falling in love with someone so strongly that you know nothing can ever change the way you feel for that person. They may think themselves undeserving of your affection, but that does not mean they’re right, and over the course of “Unconditionally” Perry makes it clear she’s not giving up on you (or whoever it is she is referring to). You can stream the power-ballad at the end of this post.

For a long time I worried that “Dark Horse” was going to be my favorite track off Prism, but now that “Unconditionally” has found its way into my life I am more excited than ever to hear all that Prism has to offer. Do you agree? Comment below and let us know your thoughts on Katy Perry’s latest.

Prism will arrive in stores October 22. Expect a full album stream to surface in the coming days.
