You Need To See The TDE Cypher From The BET Awards

Fall is not the time of year most associate with awards season, but then again there is no other show quite like the BET Awards. Instead of putting all of your favorite musicians in a room to sit together quietly while another known face hands out trophies, BET allots a large portion of their air time to sharing new, exclusive music with anyone willing to tune in. To accomplish, the show relies on group cyphers, and in 2013 no cypher is getting more hype than that offered by Kendrick Lamar and the TDE crew.

Featuring Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and of course Mr. Kendrick Lamar, the cypher from Top Dawg Entertainment was without a doubt the highlight of this year’s BET awards. The whole crew has had a banner year in 2013, but an early leak teasing Kendrick’s verse had all eyes on the good kid from mAAd city and he did not disappoint. Kendrick offered up two minutes of new material off the top of his head, and amidst a flurry of bars lie some lines that are absolutely lethal. You can stream the cypher below.

TDE will continue to push out good music well into 2014, but there is no word yet on when Kendrick will return to the studio. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on this performance.

the commercial that cut kendricks verse in half killed my vibe and ruined the cyper…

Being a fan of kendrick and Black Hippy for a while now. I think this really stood out compared to the rest of the cyphers. Not just because Kendrick dropped a little drake diss (at least as we think it is), but because the whole entire TDE crew are fantastic rappers. People really overlook rappers like ScHoolboy, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock. The Isiah guy iv’e never really heard of, but after seeing this. I’m going to look more into him. Since everyone is here for kendrick, I’ll talk about his. The whole thing was a cluster fuck of genius emotions. From the “Nothings been the same until they dropped control” to “King Kendrick”. I really enjoyed the little eminem reference when he did the “He’s scared to death, He’s scared to look” from 8 mile. I’ve been typing a lot and i’ll end it with something good. Kendrick rightfully deserves the King in front of his name.
