Michael Fassbender Addresses ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Movie That Is ‘Definitely Happening’

“We’re just developing the script at the moment.”

Thus was Fassbender quoted by Hitfix, who are reporting the news. Fassbender has been attached to the project for over a year now, and that’s about all we’ve heard about the project. The film, which will adapt the popular ongoing video game series Assassin’s Creed, will attempt to be one of the few great films based off of a video game, and less like another Prince of Persia or Resident Evil.

What news we have in that regard is promising so far, as Fassbender seems to be most serious about adapting the game’s storyline – an important move, as a movie cannot rely on script as merely a structure to be cobbled together the way some other forms of media can, if they so choose.

Still, it can’t ease gamers’ minds to hear that Fassbender has never even played the game, no matter how charming he may be while admitting it.

“I’d heard of it but had never played the game. I don’t have a video game player,” he told The Daily Beast, before laughing, “that’s not what they’re called.”

Still, Fassbender is undeniably one of the biggest, most talented actors to be attached to a video game adaptation on this level – #nodisrespecttoJakeGyllenhaal. It’s doubtful his performance will be the problem; if there is one, it’s going to be that still-in-progress script.
