One of the biggest stories in rock music in 2012 was Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel’s announcement that he would begin living as a woman. Gabel’s public transition, which included taking the name Laura Jane Grace, has been accompanied by a number of lineup changes for the band and a long writing and recording process for the follow-up to 2010’s White Crosses.
After numerous delays, Against Me! has announced that they will release Transgender Dysphoria Blues on January 21, 2014. The album will be released on Total Treble Records, which is run by Grace and the band. The slightly NSFW artwork and tracklist can be seen after the break.
Acoustic versions of two tracks from the album, “True Trans Soul Rebel” and “FUCKMYLIFE666,” were released earlier this year as a promotion for Grace’s solo tour, and the band’s shows this fall included more new material.
As a longtime fan of Grace’s songwriting, I’m personally very excited to hear what is bound to be an extremely personal record, regardless of how long it took the band to finish it.
