Britney Spears’ Music Used To Scare Away Somali Pirates

Is Britney Spears’ music really that bad that it can be used as a weapon? According to some Navy officers it is. They’ve been using some of her hits like “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops I Did It Again” to fend off Somali pirates on the east coast of Africa.

Rachel Owens, a merchant Navy officer, told Metro, “Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most. These guys can’t stand Western culture or music, making Britney’s hits perfect. As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney, they move on as quickly as they can.”

“Pirates will go to any lengths to avoid or try to overcome the music. I’d imagine using Justin Bieber would be against the Geneva Convention,” said Steven Jones who’s with the Security Association for the Maritime Industry. Who knew music was the way to get under a pirate’s skin?

Defense mechanisms sure aren’t what they used to be, but really? Spears’ best songs – come on, if you want to spook someone head to her “Gimme More” era.

What artist would you use to defend yourself from pirates?
