‘Trick ‘r Treat 2’ Announced At Beyond Fest

Despite limited screenings and landing straight on DVD/Blu-ray after being stuck in negotiations Limbo for close to two whole years, Michael Dougherty’s horror anthology, Trick ‘r Treat, has gone on to garner somewhat of a “cult” status since its eventual 2009 release. More frequently than you would expect, I see Trick ‘r Treat t-shirts, posters, references, and even permanent tattoos — not to mention the film’s character, Sam, being carved into slews of pumpkins annually for Halloween.

Tonight, as Bloody-Disgusting reports, Trick ‘r Treat was being screened in Hollywood at Beyond Fest where Dougherty and other related individuals were in attendance. A Q&A took place which led to an patently planned scenario in which “Sam” came out with a note for Dougherty asking him to make a sequel to his beloved film. Dougherty replied by claiming that it was “Thomas Tull from Legendary’s call.” Tull of course was in the audience, stood up and exclaimed, “I can’t say no to Sam. Let’s make a sequel!” At this time, a title card for Trick ‘r Treat 2 appeared on the large screen behind the panel, and from that moment we wait anxiously, and we hope that Legendary can manage to not torture as they did from 2007 to 2009 with release delays. It’s unlikely that the film would be out around this time next year unless they’re already well into production (again, unlikely), but if all goes according to plan and this is actually in motion, we’d imagine that a Halloween release in 2015 would be realistic.

View an image of the sequel’s title card after the jump and let us know if you’re looking forward to Sam’s return in Trick ‘r Treat 2.
