‘Evil Dead 2’ Has Been Cancelled

The original Evil Dead franchise has always been sort of an oddity in the world of movies. While the original is praised for its grassroots production and unique story, it’s more often than not the sequel (Evil Dead 2) that fans cling to as their favorite of the series. When plans were announced to remake the original people wondered if the sequel would get a reboot as well. It turns out, contrary to everything you’ve probably heard, a reboot of Evil Dead 2 is not happening anytime soon.

Speaking with Gorosito TV, reboot co-writer Rodo Sayagues revealed in a new interview that rumors of a sequel were unfounded. He explained, “Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.”

For the record, neither Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez or Sayagues ever claimed a sequel was actually going to happen. When their reboot premiered at SXSW in March the duo told reporters they had already begun work on a sequel, but neither ever went on record as saying the project was actually going to enter production. Now that both are off the project and franchise creator Sam Raimi is preoccupied with Army Of Darkness 2 it seems safe to assume the potential for a sequel is relatively non-existent. We’ll let you know if anything changes.
