The lyric video for “Private First Class,” from Kevin Devine‘s most recent album, Bubblegum, can be seen after the break. The video, a compilation of black and white war imagery, parallels the song, which tells the story of Chelsea Manning, the soldier who leaked classified documents to WikiLeaks in 2010.
Bubblegum, produced by Brand New frontman Jesse Lacey, is one of two records that Devine made with funds from his wildly successful Kickstarter campaign this year. It’s a genuine rock and roll record that features his group of backing musicians, known as the Goddamn Band, while its counterpart, Bulldozer, is a softer, primarily acoustic effort.
