Multiplatinum-selling pop artist Ed Sheeran, who spent much of this year as the opening act on Taylor Swift’s Red Tour, will be contributing a new song to the soundtrack and closing credits of Peter Jackson’s latest foray into Middle-Earth, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
The music video for the quiet, primarily acoustic track, titled “I See Fire,” can be seen after the break. It includes behind-the-scenes footage of the song’s recording process as well as footage from the movie, which hits US theaters on December 13.
While “I See Fire” is Sheeran’s first new song since the 2011 release of his debut album, +, he is gearing up for a big year in 2014. He recently finished recording a new album with producer Rick Rubin, which will be released in February.
