Horror Classic ‘Chopping Mall’ Returning To Theaters In 2014

If you followed our 31 Days Of Halloween feature you’ll likely recall us mentioning a beloved piece of 80s cinema known as Chopping Mall. The film, which was originally entitled Killbots, follows a group of beautiful teens/twenty-somethings after they become trapped in a mall patrolled by crazed robots after hours. We love it more than we can begin to express, and in 2014 a few lucky cities across the country will get to see the film brought back to life with a new digital print.

According to a press release sent out earlier this week, Chopping Mall director Jim Wynorski and producer Bill Dever decided that with the transition to digital delivery now employed by ninety percent of movie theaters it was time to re-introduce their iconic horror film to North American Theaters. “I was always amazed that every recent showing of Chopping Mall always turned into an event” says Jim Wynorski, “People really love the movie and for me the guy who directed the film, that’s just great.”

With the kind support of Roger and Julie Corman, Wynorski and Dever obtained the original film elements and under the careful eye of Jim Wynorski brought the film back to its original glory. “This is a dream come true, to play a small part in the restoration of a piece of classic American cinema is just amazing” tells Bill Dever. “Not only is Chopping Mall pure movie fun, it’s also in many ways an important film.”

Dates and cities for the screenings are still being locked in, but given that we’re well into November I think it’s safe to say the majority of these one-night-only events will take place in 2014. We’re continuing to follow this story as it develops and will bring you additional information as soon as more details are confirmed. For now, enjoy the film’s original trailer below.
