UTG PREMIERE: American Haiku – ‘e.p.’

There are plenty of phenomenal releases from bands new to the music scene that slip through the cracks unnoticed, so UTG has decided to do music lovers a favor by exclusively premiering the stream of American Haiku‘s debut record, e.p.

Hailing from Denver, Colorado, the screamo/emo outfit came together in a rather unassuming fashion after the breakup of vocalist Reid Wolf’s former project. “I started writing these songs shortly after my old band Orphans broke up. I recorded a demo on my iPhone and showed it to Joe, who was our drummer in that band. He said he would be interested in playing the songs, and I persuaded my girlfriend Siena to play the bass.”

Contrary to the humble nature of their inception, though, their first EP is anything but that as it taps into the finest aspects of pop-punk, screamo, and post-hardcore. “I wanted this band to sound like the stuff I listened to that affected me growing up, so it has a kinda late ’90s, early ’00s feel to it. We were always inspired by artists like Weezer, Jimmy Eat World and Weatherbox.”

There is no shortage of raw emotion when it comes to e.p. either; rather, it pours out of every audible seam of the record, and when combined with the quality of the music, the one thing Wolf hopes listeners will take away from the album is all but guaranteed to occur. “I hope people feel the way I used to feel when I first heard this kind of music.”

For those who enjoy the music, make sure to give American Haiku a like on Facebook and head over to their Bandcamp to purchase e.p.
