EP STREAM: Sammy Adams – ‘Homecoming’

After a month of singles and promotion, Boston’s Boy Sammy Adams has finally released his long-awaited Homecoming EP. The album, which features six brand new songs, hit iTunes this morning and can be streamed at the end of this post.

2013 has been a wild year for Sammy Adams. After releasing a couple of singles in the spring, Adams spent the majority of the year on the road and in the studio. Fans only learned of plans to release Homecoming about a handful of weeks ago, but the demand for new material from the pop-leaning rapper has been on the rise since summer. He still hasn’t announced plans for a full length, but we assume that news is not far away.

So, how is Sammy’s latest? Having evolved as an artist and person since his last mixtape, Adams uses Homecoming to showcase every skill he’s developed over the last eighteen months. There are heartfelt tracks (“I Wish”), party songs (“Awesome”), and even a track or two for the ladies (“Touch” may make your girlfiend’s knees weak – consider yourself warned). It’s not the most lyrically deep album of the year, nor the catchiest, but it’s certainly an entertaining release that will surely warrant plenty of spins in the months to come.

You can stream Homecoming in full below. If you like what you hear, please click the buy link and support Adams buy picking up a copy of the record from iTunes.

I get that Sammy is not for everyone, but I think he absolutely nails the the pop-rap sound. If he can continue delivering material like this (or better) he could do big things in 2014.
