STAND-UP TUESDAYS: Bill Cosby

Stand-Up Tuesdays is a weekly comedy spotlight written by the wonderfully talented Angie Frissore. Covering both known and unknown comics, Stand-up Tuesdays is your new source for all things funny.

This week, Angie puts a spotlight on Bill Cosby’s comedy career. If you or your comedy troupe would like to be featured on Stand-Up Tuesdays, please email utgjames@gmail.com.

This week in Stand-Up Tuesdays, we take a little break from critiquing and instead focus on pure enjoyment – because on November 23, the first new special from Bill Cosby in thirty years airs on Comedy Central. And Bill Cosby: Far From Finished might just be the greatest thing ever.

With an energy that betrays his years, Cosby has some very sage advice for his audience relating to dating, marriage, and family – and how to get by in comedy without swearing. “You aim at it, and you hit it, but nobody heard you firing.”

While one might expect the comedic legend to have slowed down over the years, Cosby is every bit as sharp and hilarious as he has ever been. Taped earlier this summer at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, Cosby has certainly proven that he is far from finished. He’ll even be going on tour following the special on the “Bill Cosby: Far From Finished Tour”.

When I first heard that Bill Cosby would be taping a new special, there was a small part of me that worried about what the end result would be, given Cosby’s age. Watching the special, however, it is clear that Cosby has not skipped a beat despite the thirty-year gap between specials. Once again, Bill Cosby effortlessly shows us how truly enjoyable comedy is performed.

Be sure to tune in on Saturday, November 23rd at 8:00 pm on Comedy Central as Bill Cosby takes you on a truly special comedic adventure. An extended Blu-ray and DVD of the special will be released on November 26th by Comedy Central Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment, featuring material not seen in the broadcast, an interview with Cosby conducted by director Robert Townsend, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and an inside look at the making of his song “Gangbusters.” A CD version of Bill Cosby: Far From Finished will also be released on November 26th by Comedy Central Records, with two bonus tracks titled “Bernadette” and “Otis” contributing to over 40 minutes of additional material.
