Wes Anderson Tribute Album Coming Next Spring

In the spring of 2014, American Laundromat Records will release a Wes Anderson tribute album titled I Saved Latin! featuring covers of music from many of the auteur’s much-loved films. Most notably, music will be included from Rushmore (currently eight songs planned), The Royal Tenenbaums (five), and The Darjeeling Limited and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (three songs each).

As relayed by Consequence of Sound, more artists will be announced as the release approaches. The tracklist is already impressive, though: Juliana Hatfield covering Elliott Smith’s “Needle in the Hay” (The Royal Tenenbaums), Black Francis doing Love’s “Seven and Seven Is” (Bottle Rocket), Mike Watt & the Secondmen tackling The Rolling Stones’ “Street Fighting Man” (Fantastic Mr. Fox), and covers from Telekinesis, Matt Pond, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, and more.

Additionally, there is a veritable boatload of merch and pre-order options available through ALR. There are CDs, 7″s, shirts, buttons, a magnet, a pin, a beanie, a badge, even a business card – all decked out with artsy versions of famous Wes Anderson scenes. Package prices range from a modest $14 to a not-exorbitant $60, with the option to add various items to each bundle. Every project like this must strike the balance between seeming like a labor of love and a cash grab; this project seem more like the former than most.
