Zac Brown Band Announces ‘The Grohl Sessions, Vol. 1’

Zac Brown Band have announced the release of a new EP entitled The Grohl Sessions, Vol. 1. The EP is the result of the band’s studio sessions with the legendary Dave Grohl that took place just a few weeks ago, and will be released exclusively on iTunes on Decemeber 10.

The EP was tracked live to tape at the newly opened Southern Ground Studios, the studio operated by Brown’s Southern Ground Artists record label. In addition to producing the album, Grohl played drums for the band during the recording process. Grohl explained the decision to go analog to Rolling Stone:

The band is so good they can be tracked live. We didn’t fuck with computers, we tracked live, four-part harmonies around one microphone. It’s rocking. I didn’t know what [the band] was [prior to this]. People are like, ‘Oh, it’s country.’ ‘No, it’s not, it’s like the Allman Brothers.’ ‘No, it’s not, it’s jam band.’ I don’t even know what you would call it, it’s fucking great.

The band have also announced that The Grohl Sessions, Vol. 2 will be coming next year alongside a physical release of both EPs and a making-of documentary.
