Spoon Will (Finally) Release a New Album in 2014

With indie supergroup Divine Fits picking up speed, it seemed like Britt Daniel was potentially stepping away from Spoon for a bit longer than fans wanted to admit. But now, according to Consequence of Sound, the band has headed back to the studio to record a new album due out next year.

The new LP will be Spoon’s first album since 2010′s Transference and their eighth album overall. Apparently the band has been recording new material since March and April of this year, with recent Instagram photos suggesting that they’re now moving in to the mixing process. Daniel told SPIN there is “slightly more soul than the last record” in addition to “slightly more R&B” and a few instrumental songs.

We’re still waiting to hear about a tracklist and any sneak peaks at actual audio clips, but for now we’ll have to be held over with knowing two songs are called “The Rent I Pay” and “Naff Bag” — as if news of a new Spoon album in general wasn’t good enough.
