‘Catching Fire’ Survives Against Box Office Newcomers

Catching Fire‘s ongoing box office success has not yet ceased since the sequel’s debut last weekend. There were a few different top ten newcomers this thanksgiving weekend, but none came as close to matching Catching Fire‘s $74.5 million dollar gross as much as Disney’s latest animated film, Frozen, which is currently estimated to earn about $66.7 million by tonight. Jason Statham and James Franco’s Homefront sized up to earning $9.8 million, making for a relatively quiet debut considering the fact that Sylvester Stallone wrote and produced the action flick. The Book Thief saw an exponential increase in attendance and sales in its transition from a limited release earlier in November to its national distribution this weekend.

Be sure to check out our reviews of Frozen and Homefront before following the jump to view this weekend’s top ten highest grossing films.
