One of Denmark’s most exceptional outfits have released a new song which is an alternate version of a track that will be featured on their long-awaited, forthcoming album, expected to be released sometime in 2014. Mew have stated that version 1 of “Making Friends” isn’t a single as much as it is “just a little thank you for waiting and being patient with [them] till [they] finish this big act of magic and feeling.”
We’ve been waiting for over 4 long years since the band’s incredible (and incredibly long-titled), No More Stories Are Told Today, I’m Sorry They Washed Away // No More Stories, The World Is Grey, I’m Tired, Let’s Wash Away, to hear new material from their follow-up release and we can assure you that the wait has been worth it. “Making Friends” certainly sounds like Mew. Jonas Bjerre’s signature vocals and the band’s ethereal, indie/post-rock instrumental prowess is all on display, but this new song has a kind of funky, almost R&B element that’s never been truly present in their past material. Even fans of Justin Timberlake can get down to this once it kicks in after the 1:40 mark.
You can stream the initial version of “Making Friends” via Spotify. It’ll be available for free download via Sensory Spaces later this week.
