J.J. Abrams Regrets Keeping Cumberbatch’s Role In ‘Into Darkness’ A Secret

This is very refreshing to hear.

Back when Star Trek: Into Darkness was in production, and the months leading up to its release, the internet was on fire. Attempting to deduce the role played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the film, the rumor mill was at an all time churn. Is he Khan? No, probably not. But, maybe? Even having the rumors being shot down directly from Abrams, actors, producers, you name it, it was quite clear from the production team that he was not in fact Khan.

But, who did I eventually meet during my screening of the film? Khan. The entire crew thought it better suited to lie over and over again to the audience, claiming Khan wasn’t in the film. But, now, as of today, Abrams claims this was a “mistake.”

Abrams admits that in retrospect it “probably would have been smarter just to say upfront” that Khan would be featured in the film. You can watch the full statement from Abrams here.
