‘Fast And Furious 7’ Officially Shuts Down Production

There have been rumors and gossip surrounding the fate of Fast And Furious 7 since the sudden death of franchise star Paul Walker this past weekend. Everyone knew execs met via conference call on Sunday to discuss the next steps, but it wasn’t until this afternoon that Universal made any official decision.

Effective immediately, production on Fast And Furious 7 has been shut down indefinitely. The studio wants to weigh all available options before moving forward, and given the heartbreaking irony of Walker’s death – he lost his life in a fiery car crash not unlike some sequences in the popular street racing franchise – the studio feels it best to halt production altogether for the time being. Their official statement reads:

“Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul’s immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers. At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. We are committed to keeping Fast & Furious fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker.”

Fast And Furious 6, which we continue to love on repeat viewings, will be available for rental and purchase beginning December 10. Universal has announced that a portion of the proceeds from the home video release will go to Walker’s charity. If you have an action fan in your life this holiday season, grab this fantastically fun film and support a good cause started by a beloved (and deeply missed) celebrity who by all accounts was a genuinely great person.

We’ll bring you more on FF7 as new information becomes available. Comment below and let us know how you think Universal should proceed.
