REST IN PEACE: Peter O’Toole (1932-2013)

News is breaking this afternoon that legendary actor Peter O’Toole has passed away. According to his Agent, the former leading man died on Saturday at a Wellington Hospital in London following a lengthy illness. He was 81 years old.

O’Toole originally skyrocketed to fame as the star in Lawrence Of Arabia, and over the decade went on to be nominated for countless awards worldwide. He announced last year he was stepping away from the business however, saying, “I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell.” He said his career on stage and screen fulfilled him emotionally and financially, bringing him together “with fine people, good companions with whom I’ve shared the inevitable lot of all actors: flops and hits.”

Every film lover on the UTG staff was raised on the work of Peter O’Toole, and it’s with a great deal of sadness in our hearts we wish him a fond farewell. If you have never experienced his talent, please seek out his work as soon as time and finances allow. You can view a memorable scene from Lawrence of Arabia below:
