Kris Roe Reunites With The Ataris ‘So Long, Astoria’ Lineup

It is becoming increasingly difficult to follow the ups and downs of Kris Roe, frontman of The Ataris. He’s had a number of problems with bandmates over the years, including his famous TMZ-covered ‘drum throwing‘ incident in New Jersey and, more recently, the time he left bandmates stranded in Australia with no assistance in getting home because he was afraid to fly. Now, it seems, he’s turned a new leaf.

If the photos posted to The Ataris’ Facebook page over the weekend are to be believed, the lineup behind So Long, Astoria may soon hit the road once more. A series of images were uploaded in recent days with no description, but anyone familiar with former members of The Ataris could recognize Mike Davenport, John Collura, and Chris Knapp standing at Roe’s side. No further comments or information from the band has been released.

So Long, Astoria hit the decade mark in March of this year, but The Ataris did nothing to celebrate or otherwise mark the occasion. It’s a possibility this lineup reunion could coincide with a tour announcement, but at this point we simply do not know what the future holds. That said, as much as we would love to hear the songs from that album live once more, we are far more interested in the band’s follow-up to 2007’s Welcome The Night, which has been delayed at least half a dozen times in the last three years.

Would you want to see The Ataris announce a So Long, Astoria themed tour? Comment below and let us know your thoughts.

A couple years ago, we, along with pretty much every other music blog, compiled lists counting down the best releases from 2000-2010. I had zero hesitation about naming So Long, Astoria the best record of that decade, and it’s a sentiment I stand by to this day. From beginning to end that album is hit after hit, with zero filler and the type of creative lyricism one wishes they could find on every alternative release. If you have never experienced the album in full, I sincerely hope you take time in the coming days to discover what you have been missing all these years.
