The hit-and-miss kid brother of animation, Dreamworks, will be releasing the sequel to their most well-regarded recent film next year. How To Train Your Dragon 2 is set for a plum summer release date of June 14, but the drumming up of excitement has already begun with the release of the first trailer today.
That trailer gives out one big, fat spoiler. It isn’t a teaser in the slightest, going well beyond the basic premise of our heroes, Hiccup and Toothless, being five years older yet no less prone to finding trouble. According to Slashfilm, Dreamworks was “adamantly against Fox putting it in the trailer,” but Fox, likely seeking to fill up those opening weekend showings as much as possible, included it anyway. Suddenly, between 1:00 and 1:48, the trailer’s spelling out a major plot point. You’ve been warned.
For those who’d rather wait in blissful ignorance to be surprised on opening weekend, simply pass by to another story and rest assured that the sequel, with voices from Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, and more, is this much closer to arriving. Plan instead how you’re going to fit seeing both this and 22 Jump Street in the same weekend.
