Kanye West Sued Over Sample Used In “Bound 2”

According to New York Daily News, Kanye West is being sued over a sample used in his track “Bound 2,” taken from this year’s critically acclaimed release Yeezus, which dropped this past June.

West’s song features a sample from the song “Bound,” a track which was recorded in 1971 by The Ponderosa Twins Plus One. The lead vocalist of the group, Ricky Spicer, claims that he never gave West permission to sample “Bound,” and that he was first made aware of “Bound 2” after hearing it on the radio. At this time, Spicer is suing West, the rapper’s label, Roc-A-Fella Records, and three other affiliated labels, demanding compensation.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed Monday with the Manhattan Supreme Court, “Mr. Spicer’s voice is sampled exactly as he recorded it and his voice…is heard several times.”

You can check out both tracks below, and decide for yourself if Spicer’s claim is legitimate. As always, UTG will keep you up-to-date as this story continues to develop.
