See The First Image Of Benedict Cumberbatch In ‘The Imitation Game’

The first image from the upcoming Alan Turing biopic, The Imitation Game, has been released. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular Alan Turing, the film follows Turing’s life, most notably his cracking of the Nazi’s enigma code during World War II.

For those unaware, an enigma code, or enigma machine was a device used to decipher cryptic messages. As one could imagine, it was of great use during War times before the use of secure telephone lines. This methodology of communication was extremely prevalent during the 20th century.

Aside from his famous code-breaking in the 1940s, Turing is also known for the Turing Machine, a theoretical and hypothetical device that codes images and symbols on a revolving strip. While never created physically, the Turing Machine was a template to further mechanical computing, and computer science. The most applicable logic of the idea today can be found in a computer algorithm.

Aside from his formative uses of computer science, Turing is also a homosexual, who was prosecuted criminally for his sexuality. His one-time fiancee, Joan Clarke, will be played by Keira Knightley in the film.
