In a conversation with Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac in Interview magazine, Bright Eyes mastermind Conor Oberst revealed that he auditioned for the role of the titular character.
According to Oberst, he was one of many musicians considered for the role of the folk singer. “I know I told you this when we met, but I tried out for your role in Inside Llewyn Davis — and thank god for everyone that I didn’t get it. But they auditioned a lot of musicians and actors for this part, to the point where I heard the Coen brothers and T Bone Burnett say that they had more or less given up on the idea of finding someone. And then you appeared.”
The film is based on the life of Dave Van Ronk, a folk singer known for his role in the 1960’s folk revival.
