New ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ Trailer Hypes Fake Twitter Excitement

Whether you loved or hated the return of The Muppets, it’s hard to argue with the originality and humor found in their advertising campaigns. Much like the show the characters once hosted, the promotional efforts for both the recent Muppets movie and the upcoming Muppets Most Wanted have offered a bevy of jokes and yucks that often take more than one viewing to catch. It’s this innocent-yet-complex approach to humor that drive so many people to adore these characters, and their latest advertisement is yet another example of their marketing team’s endless creativity.

Featuring a number of tweets from accounts created within the last month, the latest trailer for Muppets Most Wanted promotes the ‘hype’ for the film found on social media. Things seem normal at first, but as the narrator begins to read the messages being posted by ‘fans’ the humor begins to build. You can view the clip below.

The best part of this ad, in my opinion at least, is how unassuming it is at the beginning. We have become so numb to studios and filmmakers pushing the hype of tastemakers down our throat that poorly worded tweets from supposed average people excited about upcoming featuring being included in a trailer barely jolts us (at first).

Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and Ty Burrell star in Muppets Most Wanted, which was written by Nicholas Stoller and James Bobin, who also directs. The film hits theaters March 21.
