Against Me! Stream ‘Transgender Dysphoria Blues’

Against Me! have a long and storied history in the punk community, but the current chapter might be the most important. The Florida band’s latest album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues, is their first since frontwoman Laura Jane Grace came out as transgender in 2012, and it approaches gender issues in a straightforward and brutally honest way that is unprecedented in punk music. Highlights of the album include the title track and “Drinking With Jocks,” which are notable not only for their lyrics but also for a musical aggression that should satisfy Against Me! fans left feeling disenchanted by the more polished sound of the band’s last two full-lengths. The entire record is a gripping listen, and it’s likely to resonate both with longtime Against Me! fans and those drawn in by the subject matter and just getting their first taste of the band.
