Man Shot And Killed In Florida Movie Theater Over Cell Phone Use

A Florida man is dead this evening after being shot and killed during a screening of Lone Survivor earlier today.

According to authorities, two couples had been watching the Mark Wahlberg led blockbuster Monday at a movie theater in Wesley Chapel, north of Tampa, when the shooter and his wife apparently took issue with the couple in front of them over use of the phones. Words were exchanged, tempers flared, and before the final scene played one of the men was dead.

It is not clear at this time what exactly was said to trigger gun violence, but police now have the shooter in custody. The man who apparently used his phone is dead, and his wife is in the hospital. Her injuries, at least at this time, do not appear life-threatening.

We hate cell phone use in theaters almost as much as we hate people who sneak in largely, smelly meals from outside food vendors. That said, there is never a reason to use violence in a situation such as this. Ever.

Our thoughts go out to the families of the victims.
