Michael Douglas To Play Hank Pym In ‘Ant-Man’

Last week I wrote an article about how director Edgar Wright released a photo captioned “homework,” relating to his upcoming film, Ant-Man. This was an obvious callback to Hank Pym versus Scott Lang, both Ant-Men, but specifically the story line in which Scott Lang steals Pym’s Ant-Man tech and takes up the antennas himself.

We now know, thanks to Marvel, that Hank Pym will be played by Michael Douglas in Marvel’s upcoming film. This, by deduction, leaves Paul Rudd to play Scott Lang, the thief who later becomes Ant-Man. We have known for a while that Marvel has willingly compared Ant-Man to a heist film, and it seems that heist will most likely revolve around Pym’s tech.

Speaking on the news, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has this to say,

With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.

When Ant-Man hits theaters July 31, 2015, be prepared to see both Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd as Ant-Men.
