NEEDTOBREATHE Debut “The Heart”

Just a week after revealing an April 15 release date for their new album, NEEDTOBREATHE have returned to the front page of UTG with the premiere of a new track titled “The Heart.”

The first song to surface off Rivers In The Wasteland, “The Heart” marks the beginning of a new chapter for NEEDTOBREATHE. The song is still built on the folk foundation that has always guided the group’s sound, but there is now a heavy dose of infectious pop sensibilities layered on top that could very well catapult the band onto the top 40. It’s like The Lumineers had a love child with The Wild Feathers, only with better lyricism. You can stream “The Heart,” in full, below.

While the sound of “The Heart” may catch listeners off guard at first, it seems the new twist in NEEDTOBREATHE’s approach was planned from the very beginning.

“We had a few goals as a band for the album,” explains Bear Rhinehart in a recent interview with Paste. “I had them written in my notebook while I was writing songs. They were really basic: Keep it simple, not too many instruments, and have fun with it. And the last one was be ourselves.”

We are working with NEEDTOBREATHE’s management to stay on top of all the band’s plans for 2014. Follow UTG on Twitter to ensure you never miss another headline.
