Previously Unreleased Johnny Cash Love Song ‘She Used To Love Me A Lot’ Surfaces Online

A long ‘lost’ love song from the late Johnny Cash has been released in promotion for a new(old) album release.

Debuting on RollingStone this morning, “She Used To Love Me A Lot” features the kind of heartbroken storytelling that made Johnny Cash a legend in the world of country music. It’s simple, but deep on an emotional level in ways that music today very rarely touches upon. Cash tells of having known love and lost it, while the guitar plays on with a driving tempo that demands your full attention. You can stream the track below.

The release of “She Used To Love Me A Lot” is no random event. The track is part of an upcoming ‘lost’ album release that Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, is making possible. His late father recorded the album – Out Among The Stars – in the 80s before being dropped from Columbia. Cash stashed away the master tapes and eventually left them to his son, who is now making them available for the first time on March 25.

Speaking about the song to RS, John Carter commented “I really love this song…The depth that’s there reminds me of the real serious stuff that Dad did later in his life. And I truly think it’s one of the beautiful undiscovered gems in my dad’s catalog.”

We’ll bring you more on Out Among The Stars as new information becomes available.
