You Need To See The NSFW Short ‘Are We Not Cats’

March is my favorite month of the year for several reasons. First, UTG celebrates its birthday in March. Second, I’m usually at SXSW during the time of said anniversary and SXSW is awesome. Third is my most anticipated event of each year, The Boston Underground Film Festival.

Last year, the 2013 installment of the Boston Underground Film Festival (otherwise known as BUFF) presented a slew of cinematic oddities that ranged from cult-driven tales like Jug Face, to far more obscure stories, including the one featured at the bottom of this post.

Are We Not Cats is a twelve-minute short from filmmaker Xander Robin that recently became available to the public through Vimeo. The story follows a young man who discovers his girlfriend eating his hair subconsciously as they take a truck drive to an abandoned resort. Once there, the couple looks for the ideal place to hookup, but the young man cannot shake the notion that something is not entirely right with the girl of his dreams.

The first time I experienced Are We Not Cats I was sitting in an essentially sold out theater waiting for a feature film whose name I can no longer recall. I do, however, remember the odd sensations my stomach experienced while enduring this beautifully twisted tale. It’s at times revolting, but also deeply sensual, and when it ends you’re with emotions and thoughts you’re not quite sure how to handle. You can view the short, in full, below.

We are hoping to work with Xander Robin sometime in 2014. If you enjoy Are We Not Cats, please make it a point to follow Xander on Twitter and share your thoughts on his work.
