Youth Lagoon Release New Song Featuring Recordings Of Outer Space

It’s not uncommon to hear a certain style of indie music described as “spacey” or “ethereal,” but few, if any, of those songs actually include material recorded outside of our planet’s atmosphere. Youth Lagoon‘s new song, “Worms,” is an exception. The track, which you can hear after the break, isn’t too far removed from the soundscapes that Youth Lagoon mastermind Trevor Powers created on last year’s Wondrous Bughouse, but knowing that part of the song is literally not of this world makes for a unique listening experience.

Powers isn’t the only artist experimenting with space sounds. “Worms” is set to appear on an upcoming Lefse Records compilation titled The Space Project, which features fourteen songs composed around a space recording. A tracklist and release date are are yet to be revealed, but it’s one of the more interesting compilation ideas I’ve heard in a while, so I’m excited to listen to the final product.
