New Trailer For ‘The Raid 2’ Is Even Better Than The Last

Movie trailers are tricky business. On the one hand, you want each preview for your film to be as exciting as possible so that anyone who encounters any of the materials will be likely to seek out your feature. On the other hand, giving away too much up front can lead to people exiting the theater feeling a bit underwhelmed. Finding a balance between these extremes is key, and I think filmmaker Gareth Evans perfected his formula for movie promotion with the latest trailer for The Raid 2.

Premiering at Sundance this week before seeing a limited theatrical release in March, The Raid 2picks up hours after the final moments of the original film. The story tracks Officer Rama as he is pressured to join an anti-corruption task force to guarantee protection for his wife and child. His mission is to get close to a new mob boss, Bangun, by befriending his incarcerated son, Uco. Rama must hunt for information linking Bangun with corruption in the Jakarta Police Department while pursuing a dangerous and personal vendetta that threatens to consume him and bring his mission-and the organized crime syndicate-down around him.

Having seen at least three trailers now, The Raid 2 has somehow managed to keep most of its surprises under wraps. We know there will be a few epic fight sequences, some including cars and others filled with knives, but how it all comes together remains a mystery. I, for one, cannot wait to see the prison yard brawl in the mud.

The Raid 2 will receive a limited theatrical release on March 28. Expect more information on the film in the weeks ahead.
