Gangster Children’s Stories: Ice Cube Remixes ‘Goodnight Moon’

It is becoming harder and harder to remember the days when Ice Cube was cool. Are We There Yet was an understandable foray into family films, which made sense given the break he’d taken from the Friday franchise, and no one could argue the need for him to do the sequel after the first one made almost $100 million domestically. From there on out however, he’s become an increasing mainstream personality in a way that is a complete 180 from how he first rose to stardom. He taps into the tough guy persona every now and again, like his roles in 21 Jump Street or Ride Along, but anyone who grew up with this version of Ice Cube knows it’s a far cry from the man we once adored.

This week, Ice Cube is further reaching into the comedic mainstream (and hoping to keep Ride Along atop the box office charts) by reciting a gangster version of the children’s classic Goodnight Moon. The performance was part of an appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show, and it was delivered complete with a fake trailer. You can view the video below.

Ride Along is in theaters now. If you like movies where Ice Cube plays a character that makes references to music released by the artist known as Ice Cube, check it out.
