It’s no secret that Foo Fighters are in the process of recording their eighth album, but they might not be going about it in a traditional manner. Last week, the band posted a picture of master tapes for the LP, which frontman Dave Grohl said last year is being recorded “in a way that no-one’s done before.”
Now, details are surfacing about just what that might entail. According to a report from Triple M via a fan who ran into Grohl in a Chicago bar, the new Foo Fighters record is being written and recorded in twelve different cities around the world. The group was in Chicago to track with Butch Vig and Steve Albini, who worked on Nirvana’s In Utero, “using a never-previously-used recording technique that’s unique to this analog studio.”
It’s worth noting that all of this is based on secondhand reports from fans, but it does fit nicely with Grohl’s claims about the unprecedented nature of the production. No matter what happens, we’re just as excited as ever about new music from Grohl and company.
