Pile Stream “Special Snowflakes”

Pile is a band I have long been fond of. Though they have long been on Exploding in Sound Records, the label only really took off after last year’s positive Pitchfork review of Speedy Ortiz’s Major Arcana, though it should be noted that Ovlov’s am. was another highlight of 2013. That said, Pile may just be the next big thing from the Boston DIY scene; Stereogum and Pitchfork have both already weighed in, and feedback on the song from their new 7″, titled “Special Snowflakes,” is sweepingly positive.

No word yet on whether the b-side, “Mama’s Lipstick,” is equally as epic, but this song has Pile sweeping the likes of prog and math rock, all while keeping their grungy sense of melody and hooks. The track is a seven-minute tour de force of everything worthwhile in rock today. You can stream the song and check out their tour dates with Speedy Ortiz and Big Ups after the break.
