California’s Madlib and Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs are teaming up to release a collaborative album on March 18. The album, titled Piñata, comes out through Madlib’s label Madlib Invazion and has been pushed back since its original February 4 date. If that news is upsetting, relax. One listen to “Robes” off the album and you’ll realize it’s worth it.
Featuring guest verses from Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis, “Robes” is a chilled out track with smooth bass and tickling jazz guitar in the background. If they pushed back the release date due to additional production, it’s worth it; this sounds near-perfect.
Get ready for the rest of the album. Not only are Earl and Domo on it, but Piñata also features guest spots from Danny Brown, Raekwon, Scarface, Mac Miller, Ab-Soul, and BJ the Chicago Kid.
