The Allman Brothers Band Announce Retirement Plans

For lovers of music, there are few things worse than the demise of your favorite band. Whether it is due to something as trivial as an internal disagreement, or the staggering result of an unexpected death, the disbanding of one’s favorite group is nothing short of crippling. It is an unfortunate reality that all fans must live with, and each day, the RIP list grows longer.

Today, it is with a heavy heart we report that, after this year, The Allman Brothers Band can be added to said list. In a recent interview with Relix magazine, founding member Gregg Allman announced that the legendary group would retire from touring at the end of 2014.

“This is it—this is the end of it. Forty-five years is enough and I want to do something else, anyway. Everyone has their own real good perspective bands,” said Allman.

Though disheartening, the announcement itself is not particularly surprising, as earlier this month long-time guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks made known that they intended to part ways with the band at the end of the year.

Still, Allman did not rule out the possibility of future reunion shows, saying, “We may get together every five years and just do one play at a time.”

For the time being however, we will have to make due with the outfit’s current tour schedule. If you’d like to catch the group during their final run, you can find a full list of dates below:
