UTG PREMIERE: Sleep On It – “Cope”

If you’re into pop-punk and brutal honesty, allow us to introduce you to Sleep On It. This five-piece ensemble has been rising through the ranks of Chicago’s scene and will be independently releasing their debut EP entitled Everything, All At Once on February 11.

The tracks were recorded in Chicago’s own Gravity Studios (Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack, Story Of The Year) for its obvious reputation for quality and streaks of good luck.

“Gravity Studios was a unique experience,” says guitarist/vocalist Jake Marquis. “We had a lot of fun, but it’s also a learning process. It was our first time in a “real” studio. When there’s gold records on the wall, it puts you in a strange mindset. We went over budget, we made mistakes. But it all felt like it needed to happen for the band to get better.”

The guys had the album produced by Paul Leavitt, a man responsible for working with such influential and varied bands as All Time Low, Circa Survive, Senses Fail, The Dangerous Summer and Darkest Hour.

“Paul Leavitt was a clear choice not only because of the bands he’s worked with, but because our guitarist, TJ, had worked with Paul on his old band Goodnight City Lights. Paul was willing to work with us on our budget and truly elevated our mixes. We owe a lot to him,” said Marquis.

Although the band resides in Chicago territory, the guys have all drawn influence from the different states they’ve grown up in. Sleep On It hasn’t announced any long-term touring plans as of yet, but if you’re in the Chicago area, you can catch them playing February 9 at the Acoustic Basement Tour alongside Transit, Hit The Lights, Front Porch Step, Brian Marquis and more.
