First Trailer For ‘The Purge: Anarchy’ Takes Us To The Streets

No one expected The Purge to be the runaway box office success it turned out to be, but as soon as the box office receipts began rolling in everyone knew a sequel was pretty much guaranteed. This week, less than nine months after the original film debuted in theaters, the trailer for that second chapter found its way online.

Stepping away from the interior setup of the original, The Purge: Anarchy takes viewers to the streets on the one night of the year when every crime is legal. The trailer introduces a young couple on their way home from a trip when, just hours before sunset, their car stalls on an overpass. The siren signaling the beginning of the annual purge sounds not long after, and soon our lovebirds are plunged into a violent world where anything is possible. You can view the trailer below.

I love the concept of The Purge, but thought the original did not do enough with the material to make it worth more than a single viewing. This time around however, the story teased in the trailer has me pretty much chomping at the bit for the film’s June 20 release. Do you feel the same? Comment below and let us know your thoughts.

As far as we know there are no current plans to extend The Purge franchise beyond this summer, but if the film does as well as the original you can bet almost anything a third entry will be waiting for us in 2015.
