R-Rated Alternate Version Of ‘Anchorman 2’ Coming To Theaters February 28

There was a story in December about the production for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues being so great that the team could create an alternate edit that told essentially the same story with entirely new jokes. It was the kind of story that grabs every movie fans’ heart and teases it with the promise of seeing something unique released down the line, likely on the eventual home video release. We should have realized at the time those comments were laying the ground work for something special, and today we learned what Will Ferrell and crew have planned for the alternate version of Anchorman 2.

Hitting theaters February 28, the super-sized alternate version of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues will arrive in theaters for one week only. The new version of the 2013 comedy will be longer than the original and feature 736 new jokes. It’s also been given an R rating, which is one step above the PG-13 given to the original cut. You can view a trailer for the new version below.

Both Judd Apatow and Will Ferrell have gained recognition in recent years for allowing their casts to improvise when on set. This has resulted in several memorable outtakes and deleted moments, but as far as we know this is the first time ever something as over-the-top as creating an entirely different cut of the feature has been done in the world of comedy. Comment below and let us know if you plan to check it out.
